Chrysler pledges $550M to build Fiat 500 in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – Chrysler Group LLC says it will invest $550 million to build the Fiat 500 minicar at its assembly plant near Mexico City.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says the new work at its Toluca plant will create 400 jobs. He said Monday the company will begin making the model in December for U.S. and Latin American markets.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon says Chrysler will produce between 100,000 and 130,000 vehicles at the plant, creating about 1,200 indirect jobs. Chrysler says the Mexican government has provided a $400 million incentive package for the project, the majority of it as loans.
Chrysler, controlled by Italian automaker Fiat Group SpA, already employs 2,000 workers to manufacture the PT Cruiser sedan and the Dodge Journey at the factory.

To date the Federal Government has 7 billion of our dollars in Chrysler. Gone and caput through there bankruptcy. This is quite a THANK YOU from a company that just robbed us. Where’s Mr. Obama at on this one? Plants were shut down in this country and Mexico’s plant is thriving and starting a new line. Ya gotta wonder why the Mexicans want to come up here when were sending the jobs down there.

She said the Head of The Economic Development Commitee for the State of Illinois said that in the fourth quarter of 09, that ther was not one phone call to that office to bring industry to Illinois. Job creation is not done by Obama, Pat Quinn, the Mayor of Vandalia, nor his staff. They only tax & spend our money & talk as though they have created a job market. Jobs will be created in this state when Illinois adopts a "true" right to work law as southern states did back in the 80's and stay out of the way when a legitimate business decides to go to work on their own.
Simply relocating local businesses to other parts of town does not create a new job. In fact it generally only spends more taxpayer money installing infrastructure to make the toilets & drinking fountains work properly.
Vandalia is partially broken due to the super duper tax incentives given to newly built properties. Ten year property tax value freezes if a property is improved, 10 year sales tax abatements for road developments to "the BIG store", TIFF moneys spent on legal fees for MO---money---Town, land given to Westen trucking comanies if they promise to keep a truck parked in the lot for 10 years, dumping "grant" & loans to an unresearched signage company, permitting a "Twisted" recreation facility to be constructed without a feasabilty study nor Registered engineer/architect signing off on the design.
Those holding political positions are the ones who say "Look what we did!" when something works but say nothing when it doesn't.

Obama, Quinn, & our Mayor have very little good news to talk about these days. 10-4
